Martin Ford is the founder of a Silicon Valley-based software development firm and the author of two books: New York Times bestselling Rise of the Robots: Technology and the Threat of a Jobless Future and The Lights in the Tunnel: Automation, Accelerating Technology and the Economy of the Future. Rise of the Robots received the Financial Times/McKinsey Business Book of the Year Award and was named one of Business Insider’s Best Business Books of the Year.

He has over 25 years of experience in computer design and software development, and holds a computer engineering degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and a graduate business degree from UCLA.

He has written for publications including Fortune, Forbes, The Atlantic, The Washington Post, Project Syndicate, The Huffington Post and The Fiscal Times. He has also appeared on numerous radio and television shows, including programs on NPR and CNBC, and is scheduled to appear at this year’s TED 2017 conference.

In a front page feature in The New York Times Book Review, Barbara Ehrenrich writes that Martin Ford’s Rise of the Robots is “both a humbling book and, in the best sense, a humble one. Christopher Dembik is Global Head of Macroeconomic Research at the Danish-investment bank Saxo Bank. He is also member of the Polish economic think tank CASE (Center for Social and Economic Research) and advisor to French MPs.

As Global Head of Macroeconomic Research at Saxo Bank, he delivers analysis of global monetary policies and macroeconomic developments to institutional and high-net-worth retails clients located in Europe and in MENA. He is a regular commentator on economic topics for international media and a frequent speaker at international events, such as the COP22, Krynica Economic Forum or the Paris Global Conference.

Dembik’s research concerns the evolution of growth and monetary policy with a strong focus on China’s economic trends. He has developed various models based on the flow of credit, consumer stress and liquidity evolution. Previously, he worked as Economist for Saxo Bank’s Paris office, as analyst for an Israeli financial start-up and for the French Treasury. During the 2017 French presidential campaign, he was member of Emmanuel Macron’s economist team working on European economic issues and the impact of political risk on financial markets.

Dembik holds a master’s degree in international Affairs from Sciences Po Paris and an MBA from the Institute of Economics of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He is the co-author of The Greatest Contemporary Economic Debates (Ellipses, 2016) and Money: Functions, Monetary Transmission Mechanism and Evolution (Ellipses, 2017).

Strategic Advisor and Chairman of the Middle East Investor Relations Association since December 2015, Alex MacDonald-Vitale has recently joined SIA. With over 25 years’ experience in governance and corporate strategy in both the private and public sectors, he has returned to his advisory roots. Passionate about economic diversification and development, Alex is applying decades of successful trouble-shooting to create tailor made solutions for senior clients and institutions.

Focused on identifying market-enabling solutions, over the past decade he has advised a number of capital market institutions on their development strategies, including an historic regulation that made IR mandatory for companies listed on UAE exchanges.

Based in Dubai since 2010, Alex spent five years setting up and heading HSBC’s IR strategic advisory role in MENA. Overseeing a network of fourteen countries and three listed HSBC group entities, with equity and debt IR as well as ratings coverage. He was instrumental in raising international awareness of Middle East equities and capital market developments. Prior to this, Alex established and developed the first bank investor relations function in Saudi Arabia for SABB, where he joined HSBC.

Previously, Alex worked for ten years at the UK’s Foreign & Commonwealth Office with postings predominantly focused on the MENA region, as well as in the US and EU.

Alex began his career in London with an internship in investment banking, moving to management consultancy where he specialised in corporate governance and intellectual property.

Luciano Jannelli is Head Investment Strategy ADCB Asset Management, where he leads a team of investment strategists and analysts and is responsible for the global economic and markets outlook.

Luciano is also Adjunct Professor at NYU Abu Dhabi, where he teaches courses on financial markets, global asset allocation and international economics.

Before moving to the UAE, he has held various senior research and asset management positions at UBS Group, Bank Julius Bär and Swissquote Bank. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from Columbia University and started his career as an economist at the World Bank.

Johnson is currently Head Data Science / Practice Lead for Big Data Analytics at DBS Bank where he leads a team of data scientists in standardizing strategy, best practices and leveraging data driven tools and techniques. He holds an adjunct faculty appointment at SMU School of Information Systems and his focus areas include applied statistical computing, machine learning as well as big data tools and techniques.

He was formerly Chief Data Scientist, ASEAN at Booz Allen Hamilton where he drove the technical implementation of big data, cloud computing and advanced analytics solutions as the pioneer senior lead scientist for the region. Prior to his stint in the private sector, Johnson was Head Data Science / Principal Scientist at the Defence Management Group during which he built and developed core data science capabilities for enhancing quality service delivery and policy reviews. He was previously a Senior Technical Staff at DSO National Laboratories and was involved in the development of modelling, simulation and analytics tools to support decision making across various government agencies. He has been a member of Mensa Singapore since 1998 and was Director of Information Communication Technology from 2011 to 2013.

While at DSO, Johnson received the Defence Technology Prize (Team Engineering), a top tiered award conferred by the Ministry of Defence, as well as the Ministry of Trade and Industry Innovation Award. In 2014, he was named an Outstanding Mentor by Ministry of Education for his involvement in the Science Mentorship Programme.

An avid programmer and data enthusiast, Johnson enjoys developing apps and data products. Most recently, he was awarded first prize in Singapore’s largest coding competition, Hackathon@SG 2015 as well as the CapitaLand Data Challenge 2016.

Johnson completed his bachelor’s degree at University of California, Berkeley, majoring in the subjects of Pure Mathematics, Statistics and Economics. He received his postgraduate degree in Statistics at Yale University.

Dr. El Solh has a B.S. in civil engineering from Cornell University, an MBA from Georgetown University and a doctorate in economics from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po). Dr. El Solh has been named as one of the Top 100 CEOs in the Gulf by CEO Magazine and one of the 500 Most Influential Arabs by Arabian Business Magazine.

William Tohmé, CFA, is Regional Head of Middle East and North Africa (MENA) at CFA Institute and is based in the new CFA Institute office in Abu Dhabi.

In his role, William advocates for the highest standards of practice and ethics in the investment management industry through the promotion of financial market integrity and transparency among regional policy makers and regulators.

William brings a wealth of experience in building a presence in new markets, deep local knowledge, and a strong entrepreneurial spirit to develop the CFA Institute hub in MENA. He partners with local MENA society leaders to assist with the expansion of their networks, contributing to the further professionalisation of the investment management industry in this flourishing region.

Prior to joining CFA Institute, William was Director, Institutional Business Development at Lazard, where he developed the sovereign institutional client business in the Middle East, covering the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Oman, Egypt, Jordan and Bahrain. Prior to this role, he was Director, Middle Eastern Institutions, Alliance Bernstein Middle East.

William graduated with a Masters of Advanced Studies (D.E.A.) in Finance, Monetary Sciences and Banking from the Université Paris II in 2001 (Honours) and earned his CFA charter in 2009. William is fluent in English and a native speaker of French and Arabic.

Rosanna Lockwood is a British-qualified broadcast journalist based in Dubai. She has worked variously as a presenter, editor, reporter and producer for major television and radio news organisations in the UK, the Middle East and Russia. Prior to moving to the UAE, Rosanna was based in Moscow as a news anchor for RT International, presenting nightly live television news bulletins to English-speaking audiences around the world. She has also worked for the BBC, Bloomberg and ITN back home in the UK, covering local, national and international stories. Rosanna began her career in investment communications and has a special interest in finance and business topics. She now puts this knowledge to good use at Reuters in Dubai, where she currently works as a television news correspondent covering Gulf stock markets and Middle East business, alongside offering her services as a professional event host and moderator in the region.

Raphael Douady is a French mathematician and economist. He held the Frey Family Endowed Chair of Quantitative Finance at Stony Brook University (SUNY, 2015-18), and was, prior to that, Academic Director of the Laboratory of Excellence on Financial Regulation (Labex ReFi, a joint initiative of Paris 1-Sorbonne University, ESCP-Europe, CNAM and ENA, 2013-16). He is affiliated with Paris 1-Pantheon-Sorbonne University and the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS).

He co-founded fin-tech firms Riskdata (1999) and Datacore (2015) and now advises Matrics, a cloud-based system using AI for the buy-side industry. He has more than twenty years of experience in the banking industry and thirty-five years of research in pure and applied mathematics. His current research focus is systemic risk and the anticipation of financial market crises, as well as the use of advanced data science and statistical techniques for long-term investment. His background in pure mathematics is in dynamical systems, chaos theory and symplectic geometry. He studied at Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris and earned his PhD in mathematics in 1982 from the University of Paris 7. He is a board member of Friends of IHES, a charity supporting the French Institut des Hautes Etudes Scientifiques.

Jae Yoon is the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of New York Life Investment Management (NYLIM) . He serves as the Chair of the Investment Governance Committee, responsible for the oversight of the investment performance of the strategies managed by NYLIM’s boutiques and affiliate portfolio teams. Additionally, Mr. Yoon leads the Strategic Asset Allocation & Solutions (SAS) team which oversees the portfolio management of Mainstay and third-party multi-asset strategies, and asset allocation services and economic analysis for New York Life. Previously, he was responsible for investment risk and strategy efforts at NYLIM’s investment affiliate MacKay Shields.

Prior to joining NYLIM, Mr. Yoon was Head of Quantitative Research, Analytics, and Risk Management globally at Western Asset Management. Previously, he was with Merrill Lynch Investment Managers where he served as the Head of Risk and Performance for the Pacific and European Regions in Tokyo and London, respectively. Mr. Yoon also worked at JP Morgan Securities in Asia as regional head of Risk Management Control for Fixed Income and Equity Derivative Trading. Mr. Yoon is a CFA® charterholder and holds a FINRA Series 3 and 7 registrations.

As the Chief Executive Officer of Yellow Door Energy, Jeremy is leading the expansion of the distributed solar industry in the MENA region. He co-founded Yellow Door Energy with Adenium, where he previously acted as COO and helped build the region’s most successful renewable energy investor, deploying over $250 million in solar. Most recently, Jeremy and his team raised $65 million in Series A financing from global investors such as IFC, Mitsui, Equinor, APICORP and Adenium.

Jeremy founded his first solar venture in Canada developing and financing $40 million of rooftop solar projects. He has also run a power utility and a phone company in Honduras, built wind farms in the USA, and worked as a strategy consultant at Bain & Company.

Jeremy holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering from University of Waterloo in Canada and an MBA from INSEAD in France.
